Fulton Hogan delivers high-quality infrastructure to improve the lives of people in Australia and New Zealand, every day. Its 9,000 strong team works in every kind of weather, creating, connecting, and caring for communities. After nearly 90 years in business, Fulton Hogan believes resilient infrastructure will help tackle the challenges of a changing world, and will continue to invest and innovate to play our part.

At Fulton Hogan our purpose is creating, connecting, and caring for communities. Our large geographic footprint and the strong sense of pride and ownership within our regional businesses and project sites means that we are locals, and seek to give back to the communities we live and work in. We believe we have a part to play in building equity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians, and seek to take an active part in the reconciliation process.

We’ve taken what we’ve learnt from our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and with our Innovate RAP, we will build on our vision for reconciliation – active, genuine and respectful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and peoples in all regions to provide social and economic equality. Although we are proud of the steps we have taken, we know there is still much more to do.

In Victoria, we have been working hard to creating meaningful relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and people. In the last 18months we’ve worked closely with both Wemba Wemba, Gunditjmara, Ngadjonji and Taungurung woman Emma Bamblett and her Kinya Lerrk Business as well as with Wurunjderi man Alex Kerr to create art that represents our business and the people that work within it. We’ve applied this art across all areas of our business from our offices, onto uniforms and ‘in the home’ via tea towels and candles – our desire is simple, we want to create a culturally safe workplace where people can see that everyone is welcome, where we’re open to having conversations and learning from them and where we respect the world’s oldest living culture.

From an employment perspective, we have been working closely with a number of businesses to drive positive employment outcomes. Our demonstrated commitment in this area has seen us spend $10M FY YTD in Victoria and $40M FY YTD across Australia and employ 2.01% within Southern Region Construction and 2.75% across Australia.

We currently procure goods and services including;

With Fulton Hogan’s vision for reconciliation – active, genuine and respectful engagement, and Kinaway’s purpose to provide business support and advice we see that partnering with Kinaway is essential to support our success. In order to achieve our vision, we know we need help and assistance to improve our visibility and strengthen our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses as well as having a renewed focus on our procurement processes.  A close relationship with Kinaway and the Victorian businesses it supports also aligns well with our regional operating model and help us to build genuine relationships in the communities in which we work.

As an infrastructure company that operates Australia-wide, we have a responsibility to lead a positive and sustainable legacy of improved infrastructure, respect for country, improved community relationships and increased employment and business opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the good work that we do.

In Victoria, we have a solid pipeline of work which we see as a big opportunity to continue to support the Indigenous economy. We know that through our project pipeline we have the ability to create a legacy within community, to support both businesses and the people that work for them.

Through our Partnership with Kinaway, we would like ongoing support specifically in relation to how we can maximise opportunity through smart and engaged procurement decisions. We are continually working to build lasting and meaningful relationships within community in Victoria and we would hope that our partnership with Kinaway can further help us in this area.

Walking hand in hand’ was created by Aboriginal artist Luke Penrith for our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). It depicts a journey – coming together, acknowledging peoples’ differences, celebrating our shared values and getting to know each other respectfully. Once that is achieved we can walk hand in hand on a journey together, all playing our part in reconciliation. Major elements of the artwork include the three large circles. The green and red circle depicts building relationships, displaying our Fulton Hogan values by acknowledging Country and the Traditional Custodians of the land in which we live and work, providing opportunities for Aboriginal peoples and businesses and giving back to the community to create long lasting benefits. The blue and white circle represents partnerships, it symbolises people sitting around the campfire with everyone having a voice, truth telling and building trust. The earth coloured circle is collaboration. Once the respect and trust is visible that’s when real collaboration happens. The two boomerangs towards the top represent standing side by side together, with the lines and dots symbolising the journey. The lands, waterways and seas across Australia where Fulton Hogan works are also depicted in the artwork.
