Position Title: Aboriginal Business Relationships Manager (Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games)

Kinaway Chamber of Commerce Victoria Ltd is a First Nations Chamber of Commerce based in Melbourne that supports Victorian First Nations businesses and entrepreneurs to have a collective voice both within the Victorian First Nation Business community and the wider business community.

Kinaway has been established to grow the capacity of the Victorian First Nations business sector. The Directors of the Board are all Victorian First Nations business owners whose vision is to increase the economic participation of First Nations businesses to grow their own economies and to promote the value of our member businesses in the contribution we make to the Victorian economy.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with Kinaway, the Organising Committee, and corporate partners to leverage economic opportunities for Victorian First Nations businesses in the lead up to, during and post the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

About the Position

The Commonwealth Games Relationships Manager is a full-time 2-year contract with responsibility for implementing a partnership with the Organising Committee for the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games to that will leverage Kinaway’s expertise in strategic partnership management to create meaningful procurement outcomes for Victorian First Nations businesses.

The Relationship Manager will broker relationships between First Nations businesses and contract managers responsible for Commonwealth Games delivery, and support activities to increase the visibility of our businesses through training, workshops and events. The Relationship Manager will actively support implementation of any First Nations procurement targets set by Victoria 2026 by adopting Kinaway’s proven partnerships model to facilitate connection and encourage networking, collaboration and mutual partnership in a culturally safe manner.

The Commonwealth Games Relationships Manager is a dedicated resource that work for across Kinaway and the Organising Committee to support direct and indirect social procurement by connecting it with First Nations businesses and support implementation of the Commonwealth Games procurement policy.

The Employee’s principal duties and responsibilities are to liaise with the Organising Committee to facilitate and deliver key outcomes, which include the following:

  • Facilitating workshops/training across a variety of topics related to procurement (to be agreed)
  • in collaboration with Victoria 2026, develop and implement a bespoke procurement action plan that includes pipeline forecasting, opportunity identification and mapping, and First Nations engagement development
  • being a champion for First Nations suppliers to ensure that they are exposed to key decision makers
  • First Nations market analysis, benchmarking and insight gathering and advice on industry trends and how to enhance diversity
  • Briefings on Kinaway members and new market entrants to the First Nations business sector
  • an annual review meetings to deliver learnings, and identify improvements and 12 month forecasting
  • weekly meetings with nominated staff to discuss opportunities, challenges and share information
  • Quarterly meetings to map goals and opportunities and dates for activities throughout the year
  • Article written upon partnership commencement to be distributed to Kinaway contacts and on social media platforms
  • robust evaluation of the project with case studies

Internal capacity

Maintain internal resources and strategies with the support of Kinaway’s Strategic Partnerships team including:

  • A Kinaway model of matching businesses, procurement officers and supply chain networks across the state; including First Nations to First Nations trade.
  • Lead/influence supplier diversity integration in procurement functions including sourcing, category management, supplier management and procurement operations
  • Work with Organising Committee to develop and execute supplier diversity spend growth targets and goals
  • Effectively collaborate with the Organising Committee to develop effective processes and set First Nations diversity guidelines
  • Assist in negotiations, and with purchasing teams to increase First Nations supplier inclusion and utilisation
  • Other duties as directed by the CEO

Key Selection Criteria (applicants must address Key Selection Criteria in their application)

  • Knowledge of business operations, particularly First Nations businesses
  • Knowledge of procurement, tendering and contract management
  • Project management experience
  • Interpersonal skills and a responsive, flexible, customer driven approach.
  • Time management skills and the ability to set priorities
  • High attention to detail with the ability to priorities task, identify issues, problem solve and improve processes
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills to adapt to a wide range of stakeholders
